Okay, folks today’s lesson is #127. When you are getting all of your ingredients prepped and ready for a recipe put up the unnecessary ones. Why? So that smaller ingredients like 2 tsps of vanilla don’t get hidden behind your giant canister of flour.
The answer is yes. Yes, I did forget to add in the 2 tsps of vanilla called for in my recipe. Yes, the bars were still good but you (I)could tell there was something missing. Or that they needed something more. With that thought in mind I sprinkled some coarse sea salt on top. It helped but they still weren’t “right”. I didn’t take any photos but my final solution was to top the bars with vanilla ice cream and some salted caramel sauce. Better!
Today’s lesson was brought to you by me but the recipe was brought to you by Lori from Lori’s Lipsmacking Goodness. For those of you that haven’t met Lori I suggest you hop on over, grab this recipe, and take a look around. Lori is as real as it gets. I’m in awe of all that she makes. I admit I’m picky and don’t know if I would like it all but I like that she isn’t afraid to try new things. When I think of daring, I think of Lori!

I'm occasionally guilty of forgetting the vanilla too, and I agree it does taste like something is missing. These look divine though, and the sea salt was a brilliant idea!
Ingrid. That first picture is out of this world!!! These look amazing...and I want a warm one w/ ice cream and salted caramel. Badly. Trade ya for some fried ice cream ;)
I love your beautifully stacked bars=) And I seriously always always always forget to put vanilla in whenever I make vanilla frosting! Like really, Sherry?
I should know better than tothink that you would actually make Bittersweet chocolate chip bars and not add something like butterscotch ot cinnamon chips. yum!
I can not tell you how incredibly good these look. I am LOVING that first picture. What kind of camera did you get again?
OOOH, congrats on your 200th follower!!!
You totally had me at the salt. I love salty sweet!
Forgetting ingredients is sooo something I would do :) Looks delish though! I love butterscotch in bars. Congrats on your follower growth too!
I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten to add vanilla!
Your pics are sooo nice. I want to upgrade my camera, but I'm still not confident that I'll make the most of "real" camera if I get one.
Well, missing the vanilla definitely didn't affect the visual aspect. These look fantastic!
They look fantastic! Glad to know forgetting ingredients happens to others, too! :)
They look beautiful and so delicious. I bet you won't forget the vanilla again.
I think I could "suffer" through eating these sans vanilla. Salt is what I usually forget, and just a pinch makes all the difference in the final product.
Boy Mimi starts school Tuesday but we have our 1st football game tomorrow. Mini Me doesn't leave until September 18. Life will be a lot different around here come then.

I can imagine that without vanilla those bars must lack something... Anyway, they look so good!
Cheers,
Rosa
I don't know how many times I have forgotten to add salt to a recipe! Well at least the bars look amazing!
you don't realize how much little things like that impact a recipe until you forget them--it's a good lesson! with these bars, though, there are so many awesome morsels that i'm sure they were perfectly delicious.
I have forgotten an ingredient or a step in a recipe so many times that now I read and reread the recipe several times before baking. It happens to all of us. Regardless, those pics are really good Ingrid and they look delicious!
You, my friend, are the sweetest thing! You always such nice things. You are amazing! Thank you for the shout out. I like the chip idea. These bars are definitely one I will make a gain. They are just so perfect for school lunches, etc.
Okay, those bars look unbelievable (even without the vanilla)! I've been known to leave out the occasional ingredient now and then. Oh well....I guess you just gotta laugh about it!
They look like they are chocked full of goodness. but with ice cream and caramel-how could you go wrong?
Oh, you, with your excellent photographs and your yummy cookie bars. Love the perfect stack and the perfectly cut parchment. You're too much, you cheeseball. Love ya, Ingrid!
Wow, these look delicious!!! I love anything sweet and made with chocolate. Great pictures!
fantastic pics, i love these! i've been known to leave things out too, but i'm glad that these still turned out delish!
Vanilla does make a big difference, doesn't it Ingrid? It's really amazing. Well, the bars LOOK wonderful in the photos and if ice cream helped, I'm all for it. I go on over to Lori's and see what's what.
Oh no, I hate that feeling in your gut when you know you left something out!
Ingrid! These are beautiful! Honestly, you had me at salted caramel sauce. I forgot and and all inkling of vanilla after that. Yum, yum yum! Thanks for sharing and have a great holiday weekend!
They look right and perfect to me!
I forget the vanilla soo many times, sometimes I consider not even bothering to write it out in a recipe. It affects the taste, but then it's more than my pea sized brain can handle.
Those bars look delicious, off to check what they are!
Ingrid, you are so cute! ha ha. I do the same thing. But I think I've done worse and left out SUGAR before. ;)
Sorry I haven't been around much. A lot going on and we won't be settled into our new home until October. I start my job hunt this weekend!
What can't be saved by ice cream and salted caramel sauce? I bet the whole thing was just delicious.
Your photos are excellent too!
Gorgeous photos! The lighting is just perfect.
I'd love to have one of those bars. The salt addition was super smart!
Ingrid! What a deliciously beautiful blog you have!!! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog so that I could find you. :-)
Delish! So, where does one obtain salted caramel sauce?
Your bars look great, and salted carmel sauce sounds good too. :)
mmmm I like your fix of serving them with ice cream :)
Eh. What's a little vanilla anyway??? LOL! These look absolutely delicious! I always check a recipe about 5,000 times while I'm making it because I'm so paranoid I will forget something. I'll just remember this lesson next time!
Great post. Your pictures look awesome and the bars look like they taste great too, even without the vanilla. Thanks for the link...I'll check out Lori's site to see how to make these yummy cookie bars.
