Creme Brulee

So easy and so good!  Who knew?  And why didn’t you tell me?

creme brulee

This month’s baking challenge was creme brulee and was chosen by Michelle of One Ordinary Day.  The creme brulee recipe she chose comes from Dorie Greenspan’s Baking: From My Home to Yours.

cinnamon creme brulee

I loved this recipe.  The hardest thing about it is the waiting, for it to bake and then chill for several hours.  Oh, and did I mention that there was fire involved?  There is!  I had an ol’  kitchen torch that wasn’t working so well so my honey and I took a little trip to Home Depot and came home with Taluela the Torch or as I fondly call her T.  :)

 cinna creme brulee

I made two versions, a vanilla bean (the round dish) and a cinnamon. Both were very good and am not sure I can pick a favorite.  I’m thinking I’d like to try a spiced version next.  What flavor would you make?  Oh, wait! You need the recipe, right?  Hop on over to Michelle’s for it and be sure to also check out Monica’s version.  I wouldn’t be surprised if you found some chocolate involved in one of theirs.

I love the cracked top image you've got. I love the sound of the cinnamon verison, but I think I'd go more traditional and make vanilla bean! Vanilla is my favourite baking ingredient.

Nice job- I still have yet to try making creme brulee.

Oooh, I'll have to pick up a torch and give this a try. ;) The vanilla bean version sounds incredible!

I just bought a torch! Now, I don't have an excuse to not make them. I thought they were difficult to make!

Seeing as how we are finally getting chillier weather over here (mid 70's) I think I am getting ready for fall. A pumpkin creme brulee sounds great to me...in fact...I may have to run and make that soon!

I can't believe you made creme brulee without me!!! Mean! ;-)

Great job hon! Thanks for sharing.

PS. I'm a complete slacker and haven't gotten your apple butter in the mail yet. Soon!

My post is finally up! Thanks for being impatient with me :-)

How did you know there would be chocolate involved in mine? ha!

That little round dish is so cute, that's my favorite picture. Your cinnamon version does sound great though!

Hope the apple cake is coming along!

I love cinnamon, but Vanilla Bean sounds so good. I have never made Creme Brulee before, but is now on my list- I need to go find a T or Cal :)

I once had a chocolate creme brulee and it was sooo good.

I need to get a little kitchen torch so I can try this recipe. I have the ramekins, I just don't have the fire!

I love creme brulee. I've made a pumpkin version that I remember being good. Of course, any way you flavor it, you know it's gonna be good!

I love creme brulee and your brulee'd top looks perfect.

I have to say, I've yet to try a cinnamon variation, but it sounds good for fall.

I used to think that creme brulee was so hard to make until I made it for myself and felt like someone was holding out on me. The crust on yours is perfection!!!

Yum - you just reminded me that I have a Tahitian vanilla bean in my pantry (seriously from Tahiti - my cousin honeymooned there and brought them back for me) that would be perfect for this. But if I use it, I can keep smelling its deliciousness - ha!

It's perfect, way to go Ingrid!

Okay, if you say it's easy, maybe I can do it! :) Because I really love creme brulee.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE creme brulee! I am going to make a pumpkin version now that fall is here! :)

You did a marvelous job, Ingrid. The thing is, so many people (and restaurants) make a pudding, caramelize the sugar on top and then call it creme brulee. I always want to shout: it's supposed to be a custard!!
Kudos for making a custard first, then caramelizing the sugar on top.

I am just sooooo impressed! I am intimidated by the thought of making CB....maybe b/c it's the fact that you use "fire" at the end of the whole process???? But goodness! - I just need to get over this fear and make the lovely CB! Gorgeously d'lish looking Ingrid! :-)

Excuse me, I thought I was looking at the cover of Bon Appetit Magazine when I saw your gorgeous photos of this luscious creme brulee. Your photos are outstanding!

That said - I would love to talk again - miss you! I'm always worried about bugging you because you're such a busy Mama, and you know how I can talk lol. Then again, I've been pretty wrapped up too. Mandy and I only speak over the phone about once a month because she lives in Ireland.

Let me know when a good time for you is..we have lots of catching up to do and I need to wax on about your mouth watering desserts :)

You just hit my weak spot. I absolutely ADORE creme brulee! And if you get to play with fire, that's just an added bonus. :) Hope you're doing well and having a great week!

Your creme brulee looks about a MILLION times better than when I've made it. You've convinced me to give it a go again!
